Known for performing in an aviation mask and filling floors with his take on Detroit electro, Galaxian is fast becoming a prodigious experimental music producer. Based in Glasgow, Galaxian – a.k.a. Mark Kastner – melds polyrhythms, complex sound structures, and dark ambient textures to create his trademark sound. The artist writes electro that is unparalleled in its size and intensity.
The majority of his music is beat-driven, but it's the spaces between the fully-formed tunes that we find particularly impressive. For instance, the dark and ominous flow of the track "Forget About It" is surrounded by a swarm of other beatless tunes which render it a sort of climax. For Galaxian It’s all about the peaks and troths, building continuous momentum and anticipation through hollow sounds that swell and liquify on a constant basis.
