Cathode is Steve Jefferis from Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Cathode releases albums of precision-glitch electronics with micro beat implosions, deliciously gliding tunes, rippled with tender pops, and blippy uprises. A goldmine of glitchy, arrhythmically cut-up sounds, of the clicks & cuts school, but tied in to something more warm and emotional.
The thrill of Cathode’s music is often in the tension of opposites - for instance, confusing rhythms verses a simple, straightforward melody. Cathode focusses on sound falling apart, but stopping short of the point where it becomes completely formless, and instead revealing something very simple or beautiful in the confusion.
