Mrs Jynx
About
Mrs Jynx is Hannah Davidson, from Manchester. Sounding not unlike an early µ-Ziq, Mrs Jynx distills the evocative sound of a pastoral English summer via the medium of synthesisers.
Her first album through Planet Mu “The Standoffish Cat’ sits somewhere between IDM and Electronica, in a place all of its own. Davidson has a talent for refining components into absolute forms; melody, composition and technical production are the ones that come to mind first and foremost across her albums. With sparkling arpeggiating synths and incredibly pretty melodies. Bright and full of vibrancy, but never overbearing because of the deep, often dark basslines she employs.
Her following album ‘Shark Carousel’ builds on the early ’90s electronic influenced sound of Jynx’s debut. There’s a little more emphasis on lower frequencies and slightly more upbeat arrangements, but all the femininity, sensitivity and joy that made 2008’s ‘The Standoffish Cat’ so endearing are intact. Traces of big beat, break beat and even old school drum & bass influences can be heard prominently throughout the record, while her programming has advanced in complexity and richness. ‘Shark Carousel’ carves off a corner of the electronic realm that is clearly Mrs Jynx’s.
Her music has exquisite production with a deep, rich tone that permeates throughout, this is classic IDM of the highest order.
