Suction Records is an electro / IDM / synth label from Toronto, Canada. founded in early 1997 by like-minded robot music composers Lowfish (Gregory de Rocher) and Solvent (Jason Amm) and now run by Solvent and David Borean. Originally considered part of the first wave of North American idm (intelligent dance music, ie. post-AFX / Autechre), Suction Records has slowly but surely established itself as an anomaly in the electronic music underground.
The music of Solvent and Lowfish, a unique mixture of melodic, instrumental synthpop and clinical electro/IDM, went on to define Suction Records’ sound. More than two decades later, the Toronto-based label continues to champion the same sound, adding key artists Skanfrom and RX-101 to the roster. But Suction Records has also expanded its palette into everything from EBM (Digital Poodle, Celldöd), to minimal synth (Ceramic Hello, June), and beyond.
