Gauthier de Hemptinne aka Sk'p (also Skip) is a Belgian electronic musician who has performed along side such greats as Venetian Snares, Ceephax, µ-ziq and DMX Krew.
To classify his music requires two approaches: Firstly as Skip, one would say its a personal mix of IDM, drill 'n’ bass, electronica and ambient, often wrapped up in nostalgic or playful melodies. However, for his project as Sk'p, he departs from his colorful, happy place into darker, more introspective territory, revealing a whole new side of him that we haven't yet heard.
In both guises, he has a way of making small things sound big, turning tiny micro samples, synthesized pops, clicks and droplets into intriguing, complex beats and textures. He is known for his precise micro cuts, squeaky clean beat works and joyful synth works. Bubbling up through these expertly woven rhythms are beautiful, swelling melodies from light and pleasant to heavy and dramatic.
